Sex determination from metopic suture and supraorbital ridge in Thai population
نویسنده
چکیده
Materials and methods This study included 300 human adult skulls, which were obtained from the Forensic Osteology Research Center, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University. The metopic suture and supraorbital ridge were observed macroscopically. The degree of supraorbital ridge was classifi ed into 4 levels. The 1st level had a massive prominence, the 2nd showed fair prominence, the 3rd indicated slight prominence and the 4th revealed no prominence. Descriptive statistics were analyzed by the SPSS program.

A rare case of a familial form of nonsyndromic trigonocephaly
Isolated trigonocephaly is a nonsyndromic form of craniosynostosis characterized by the premature fusion of the metopic suture. Incidence is estimated at 1/15,000 births. Males are more frequently affected than females (sex ratio of 2:1) and the frequency of trigonocephalic twins is unexpectedly high. The premature closure of the metopic suture results in deformation of the anterior portion of ...
متن کاملChildren with Metopic Ridge.
AIM The premature closure of the metopic suture results in metopic synostosis, also known as trigonocephaly. However, there is a group of children who have only a frontal metopic ridge, obvious with inspection and fingertip palpation, without the clinical features of trigonocephaly. This study aims to report a group of children with metopic ridge with a special emphasis on the definition and th...
متن کاملThree-dimensional sonographic description of the fetal frontal bones and metopic suture.
OBJECTIVE To describe the morphology of the frontal bones and metopic suture at 9-34 weeks of gestation using three-dimensional (3D) ultrasonography. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study of the frontal bones and metopic suture in 16 fetuses at 9-34 weeks of gestation. 3D ultrasonography was used to obtain volumes of the whole fetal skull in the mid-sagittal plane. The volumes were analyze...
متن کاملUnique Sex-Based Approach Identifies Transcriptomic Biomarkers Associated with Non-Syndromic Craniosynostosis
BACKGROUND The premature fusion of one cranial suture, also referred to as non-syndromic craniosynostosis, most commonly involves premature fusion of the sagittal, coronal, or metopic sutures, in that order. Population-based epidemiological studies have found that the birth prevalence of single-suture craniosynostosis is both suture- and sex-dependent. METHODS Transcriptomic data from 199 ind...
متن کاملPersistent Metopic Suture in Adult Skulls of Andhra Pradesh
Majority of Skull bones are held together by fibrous joints termed as sutures. At birth the two halves of frontal bone remain separate as the metopic suture which is replaced by bone at about 2 years. The persistence of this suture beyond 8 years of age is termed as metopism. The study was conducted on 90 adult human dry skulls. Among them 55 were obtained from department of anatomy RIMS Ongole...
